The Caves, Negril,

True seekers of cave-dwelling might find the name of this hotel a bit cheeky – here the accommodation consists of thirteen one and two bedroom cliffside cottages and a four bedroom deluxe villa constructed largely out of wood with thatch roofing. Granted, they are splendid creations that are spectacularly stacked alongside purpose-built stone mosaic outcrops, however they are not carved into the cliff itself. Having said that, we are pretty sure all will be forgiven when you are sitting inside the private dining cave strewn with candles and flowers. Inside this tiny grotto with jade waters quietly lapping, you can dine for two at the carved stone table piled with divine dishes such as saffron crab cake served over spicy tomato salsa and drizzled with a herb-mustard vinaigrette or succulent rock shrimp simmered in a savoury coconut sauce, served with seasoned basmati rice, sautéed calalloo greens and roasted ripe plantain. From there you can sip on a signature cocktail (The Cliffhanger consists of freshly squeezed watermelon juice with a hint of ginger, served with Appleton Gold Jamaica Rum) at the Caves Rum and Cigar Bar. A grotto with a bar and lounge area constructed out of stone mosaic, it is the sort of place set up for Fred Flinstone to woo Wilma.
